I was brought up in Streatham, South London and went to Battersea Grammar School near Tooting Bec Common. On getting married, we moved around a bit and finally settled in Billericay, Essex, to be near Mum! I started work in a bank and fairly soon became a foreign exchange dealer trading in the London and International markets. I spent a lot of time in the early days working on behalf of the Bank of England up to the 1967 devaluation of the pound.
I worked in a variety of international banks and brokers ending up as Chief Dealer in one of the larger French banks. I left banking in 1985 to start a software company in Chelmsford specialising in trading room software. This was my career until 2001 when I moved to Ipswich and ended up running a hobby shop until I retired in 2012.
I married Valerie Carter on 22nd April 1967 and have had a very happy marriage ever since. We have four lovely children that have all made their mark on the world. I have loved Traditional Jazz ever since I was a boy and now play the 20 button Anglo concertina with some flourish. My eternal hobby since my 10th Christmas has been model railways and I now am building a 3 rail Märklin layout. As can be guessed with my owning a model shop, I have also been an avid builder of scale plastic models although that has taken a back seat recently.
